Ibn Salaama, in his book الناسخ والمنسوخ في القرآن الكريم, pages 84-85, supports this claim and mentions the circumstances of revelation of 20:114 as reported by Al-Bukhaari and Muslim:
Narrated Ibn Abbaas (RA) that one time the Prophet (PBUH) was reciting Chapter 53 in a congregational prayer and when he read verses 19-20,
The Prophet (PBUH)
wanted to say,
which is the next verse, but
Satan said, " تلك الغرانيق العلى وإن شفاعتهن لترتجى" (Those are the high prizes, and their mediation is hoped for). And then the Prophet (PBUH) continued reciting! Quraysh (the Prophet's tribe which was then polytheist) said, "He came back to our religion!" and they prostrated.
Then God sent down Gabriel to tell the Prophet (PBUH) that this was not how the Chapter was sent down! The Prophet (PBUH) asked him, "And
how was it sent down upon me?"! Gabriel told him the correct revelation. The Prophet (PBUH) was quite depressed and sad, so God, to
console him, revealed,
Then, the weird narration continues, these verses were revealed,
And the Prophet (PBUH) twice would not recite the Quran after Gabriel revealed new verses to him. Then God revealed 87:6,
to abrogate what was before it and since then the Prophet (PBUH) had not forgotten anything until he met his Lord.
What a farce! They want us to believe that the Prophet (PBUH) did not memorize the verses revealed to him, and worse, he could not tell when false verses were inserted!!
And, as if that was not enough lying about the Prophet (PBUH), they want us to believe that Satan would attend a congregational prayer and say out loud false verses and no one, including the Prophet (PBUH) could recognize the new voice! Or did Satan imitate the Prophet's voice?! Or did Satan control the Prophet's tongue to make him say the false verses?! Satan has no power over humans, as God relates to us what Satan will say on the Day of Judgment,
And adding insult to injury, the narration wants us to believe that the Prophet would not follow God's order in 75:18,
Finally, how is this absurd story even related to 20:114? The verse commands the Prophet (PBUH) not to hurry up the revelation before it is done. The story clearly states that it was Satan that did the hurrying!
It is a sad state of affairs if any Muslim actually believes this cockamamie story.
