Quote:
{4:97} Indeed, those whom the angels take [in death] while wronging themselves - [the angels] will say, "In what [condition] were you?" They will say, "We were oppressed in the land." The angels will say, "Was not the earth of God spacious [enough] for you to emigrate therein?" For those, their refuge is Hell - and evil it is as a destination.
I suggest,
{4:97} Verily, those whom the angels recall [in death] while wronging themselves - [the angels] would say, "In what [condition] were you?" They would say, "We were deemed weak in the land." The angels would say, "Was not the earth of God spacious [enough] such that you [could] migrate therein?" Therefore, those - their refuge is Gehenna (Hell) - and vile has it been a destination.Quote:
{4:98} Except for the oppressed among men, women and children who cannot devise a plan nor are they directed to a way -
Excellent translation, but I'd say "guided to a way" instead of "directed."
I suggest,
{4:98} Except for the deemed weak among men, women and children who cannot devise a tactic nor find direction to a way [out] -Quote:
{4:99} For those it is expected that God will pardon them, and God is ever Pardoning and Forgiving.
Asad's translation of
عسى is best. He translated it "may well." I suggest,
{4:99} Those - God may well pardon them and God has ever been Clement, much Forgiving.Quote:
{4:100} And whoever emigrates for the cause of God will find on the earth many [alternative] locations and abundance. And whoever leaves his home as an emigrant to God and His Messenger and then death overtakes him - his reward has already become incumbent upon God. And God is ever Forgiving and Merciful.
Excellent translation. I'll only set the tense to match the Arabic. I suggest,
{4:100} And whoever migrates for the cause of God finds in the earth many alternatives and capacity. And whoever exits from his home, migrating to God and His Messenger, and then death overtakes him - then his reward has already become incumbent upon God. And God has ever been much Forgiving, Merciful.
