Quote:
{5:1} O you who have believed, fulfill [all] contracts. Lawful for you are the animals of grazing livestock except for that which is recited to you [in this Quran] - hunting not being permitted while you are in the state of ihram. Indeed, God ordains what He intends.
I don't mind the transliteration of
حُرُم but it must be followed by an explanatory note for non-Muslim readers, e.g., "(while performing the rites of pilgrimage)".
يريد means "wants", not "intends."
I suggest,
{5:1} O you who have believed, fulfill contracts. It has been allowed for you [to eat the meat of] the bulk of livestock except what is recited to you [in this Quran] - not allowing hunting while you are ascetic. Verily, God rules what He wants.Quote:
{5:2} O you who have believed, do not violate the rites of God or [the sanctity of] the sacred month or [neglect the marking of] the sacrificial animals and garlanding [them] or [violate the safety of] those coming to the Sacred House seeking bounty from their Lord and [His] approval. But when you come out of ihram, then [you may] hunt. And do not let the hatred of a people for having obstructed you from al-Masjid al-Haram lead you to transgress. And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression. And fear God; indeed, God is severe in penalty.
Same comment about transliterating "ihram." Also, another transliteration here that is unnecessary; "al-Masjid al-Haram" can be translated "the Sacrosanct Mosque." The translators used "the Sacred House" to translate
البيت الحرام so why did they not follow the same convention with
المسجد الحرام?
I suggest,
{5:2} O you who have believed, do not violate the rites of God nor the sacred month nor [the requirement of] the sacrificial animals nor the garlands [to mark them] nor [the safety of] those aiming for the Sacrosanct Mosque reaching out to bounty from their Lord and approval. Then when you have concluded asceticism, then [you may] hunt. And let not incite you the animus of a folk - that they shunned you from the Sacrosanct Mosque - to not be just. And cooperate on goodness and piety, but do not cooperate on sin and aggression. And watch out for God; verily, God is severe in punishment.
