Quote:
{5:38} [As for] the thief, the male and the female, amputate their hands in recompense for what they committed as a deterrent [punishment] from God. And God is Exalted in Might and Wise.
I suggest,
{5:38} And [as for] the larcenist man and the larcenist woman, then cut their hands in recompense for what they earned, an exemplary punishment from God. And God is Almighty, Wise.Quote:
{5:39} But whoever repents after his wrongdoing and reforms, indeed, God will turn to him in forgiveness. Indeed, God is Forgiving and Merciful.
I suggest,
{5:39} Then whoever has repented after his wrongdoing and reformed, then verily, God accepts his repentance. Verily, God is much Forgiving, Merciful.Quote:
{5:40} Do you not know that to God belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth? He punishes whom He wills and forgives whom He wills, and God is over all things competent.
The past tense is used in the Arabic, so I like to keep it, i.e.,
{5:40} Did you not know that God has the dominion of the heavens and the earth? He torments whom He wills and forgives whom He wills, and God is over everything Powerful.
