Quote:
{77:38} This is the Day of Judgement; We will have assembled you and the former peoples.
I suggest,
{77:38} This is the Day of Distinction; We have gathered you and the former [peoples].Quote:
{77:39} So if you have a plan, then plan against Me.
Pickthall's translation here is superb! He translated 77:39 like this, "If now ye have any wit, outwit Me."
Unfortunately, wit has come to indicate humor instead of clever argument, and "outwit" has come to mean outmaneuvering by unnecessarily proper means. These connotations are improper for the verse. So, instead, I suggest what Irving suggested: scheme,
{77:39} So, if you have a scheme, then scheme against Me.Quote:
{77:40} Woe, that Day, to the deniers.
I suggest,
{77:40} Woe, that Day, to the belying.
