Quote:
{75:5} But man desires to continue in sin.

Well, this simply is not what the Arabic says! The Arabic says, "{75:5} Nay, man wants to engage in debauchery in front of Him."

Quote:
{75:10} Man will say on that Day, "Where is the [place of] escape?"

The interjection of "place of" is redundant, since the interrogative article "where" asks about places.

The following verse (75:6) suggests that the violation man is making is the (implied) denial of the Day of Judgment. This would make the choice of "debauchery" a bit off. Perhaps:
{75:5} Nay, man wants to transgress in front of Him.

True, but the way I look at it is that man wants to openly engage in debauchery because he dismisses the Day of Judgment. If man believed in Judgment Day, he would be too scared to engage in debauchery, especially in the open, knowing that God disapproves of it.

OK, I concur.

{75:5} Rather, man wants to carouse in front of Him.
"Carouse" is such a brilliant translation from Irving!

{75:6} He asks, "How long till the Day of Resurrection?"

{75:7} So when vision has dazzled,

{75:8} And the moon has eclipsed,

{75:9} And the sun and the moon have been joined,

{75:10} Man [will] say that Day, "Where is the escape?"

{75:11} No! There is no subterfuge.
Excellent translation by Dr. Ghali.

{75:12} To your Lord, that Day, is the settling place.
