Quote:
{6:40} Say, "Have you considered: if there came to you the punishment of God or there came to you the Hour - is it other than God you would invoke, if you should be truthful?"

I suggest,
{6:40} Say, "Have you seen (considered): if there came to you the torment from God or came to you the Hour - is it then other than God you would invoke, if you have been truthful?"

Quote:
{6:41} No, it is Him [alone] you would invoke, and He would remove that for which you invoked Him if He willed, and you would forget what you associate [with Him].

يكشف does not mean "remove" but rather "unveil". So, I suggest,

{6:41} Rather, it is Him you invoke, then He would unveil what you ask for if He willed and you would forget what you associate [with Him in worship].

I am not clear on the exact meaning of 6:41. Could you elaborate? They may have used "removed" because of interpreting يكشف as related to removing a hardship.

I see the keyword is إليه. The people are calling upon God for something. God says that He may answer their call and unveil that which they are asking for, e.g., relief from hardship or removal of torment. This is one place, IMHO, among several, where God gives us the hint that everything we want is already here, we only need to ask God to reveal it to us ;) He very well may.

Got it. My only remaining concern is that the meaning can be read as "revealing what you ask (as opposed to keeping it a secret)" but the same interpretation can be in principle read into the Arabic text, so the translation is honest.
