Quote: {68:17} Indeed, We have tried them as We tried the companions of the garden, when they swore to cut its fruit in the [early] morning Should an explanatory note or a footnote be added here to explain this story, or should the reader be left to wait for the explanation that follows a few verses later? That is, the garden owners wanted to preempt the poor, who knew when harvest is due, and deprive them from taking some of the fruits in charity as was customary. |

Quote: {68:17} Indeed, We have tried them as We tried the companions of the garden, when they swore to cut its fruit in the [early] morning I suggest, {68:17} Verily, We have tried them as We tried the owners of the garden, when they swore to cut it (its fruit) [first thing] in the morning. Quote: {68:18} Without making exception. I suggest, {68:18} And they were not making an exception. Quote: {68:19} So there came upon the garden an affliction from your Lord while they were asleep. I suggest, {68:19} So there visited upon it (the garden) a visiting from your Lord while they were sleeping. Quote: {68:20} And it became as though reaped. I suggest, {68:20} And it became like the sheared off [field]. |
