The Arabic style of these verses is so beautiful. Unfortunately, that beauty is hard to translate
Quote:
{54:49} Indeed, all things We created with predestination.
The translation of
قدر to "predestination" is a very common error. The word means precision or accuracy or timeliness. I'm glad to see that none of the four alternative translations made that error. I suggest,
{54:49} Verily, We created everything with precision.Quote:
{54:50} And Our command is but one, like a glance of the eye.
I wouldn't add "of the eye", i.e.,
{54:50} And Our command is but one, like a glance.Quote:
{54:51} And We have already destroyed your kinds, so is there any who will remember?
"Your kinds" is inaccurate. The Arabic word means "your fellows" or "like minded people." I suggest,
{54:51} And We have already destroyed your fellows, so is there any who will remember?Quote:
{54:52} And everything they did is in written records.
"Written records" is a good translation, but the Arabic words means "the scriptures." It may refer to the holy scriptures, or it may mean, as Yusuf Ali understood, the books of deeds. I suggest,
{54:52} And everything they did is in the scriptures.
