Quote: {4:71} O you who have believed, take your precaution and [either] go forth in companies or go forth all together. "Go forth" doesn't quite capture the meaning of انفروا. I suggest, "Charge forth", {4:71} O you who have believed, take your precaution then charge forth in detachments or charge forth together. Quote: {4:72} And indeed, there is among you he who lingers behind; and if disaster strikes you, he says, "God has favored me in that I was not present with them." "Lingers behind" is a good translation but the Arabic verb means to slow down on purpose, which of course leads to lingering behind. I like Yusuf Ali's "tarry," but it may not be familiar to some readers. I suggest, "dallies" or "dawdles". I suggest, {4:72} And verily, among you is he who surely dawdles out; then if has hit you a disaster, he says, "God has certainly bestowed favor on me as I was not with them a witness [thereof]." Quote: {4:73} But if bounty comes to you from God, he will surely say, as if there had never been between you and him any affection. "Oh, I wish I had been with them so I could have attained a great attainment." I'd say instead something like "come out with a great prize", {4:73} But if surely has hit you a bounty from God, he will surely say, as if there had not been between you and him comity. "Oh, how I wish I had been with them so I would win a grand winning." |
