Quote:
{4:83} And when there comes to them information about [public] security or fear, they spread it around. But if they had referred it back to the Messenger or to those of authority among them, then the ones who [can] draw correct conclusions from it would have known about it. And if not for the favor of God upon you and His mercy, you would have followed Satan, except for a few.
I'd insert an interjection in the italicized phrase, such as "would have known [what to do] about it." That would make the meaning clear.
I suggest,
{4:83} And when there comes to them a matter of security or fear, they broadcast of it. But if they had referred it back to the Messenger or to those of authority among them, then surely would have noted it those who [can] deduce it among them. And if not for the favor of God upon you and His mercy, you would have followed Satan, except for a few.Quote:
{4:84} So fight, [O Muhammad], in the cause of God; you are not held responsible except for yourself. And encourage the believers [to join you] that perhaps God will restrain the [military] might of those who disbelieve. And God is greater in might and stronger in [exemplary] punishment.
The interjection "exemplary" is a great one! I'd even dispense with the brackets.
I suggest,
{4:84} So fight [, O Muhammad,] in the cause of God; you are not held responsible except for yourself. And urge the believers [to join you]. Perhaps God [will] inhibit the tribulation from those who have disbelieved. And God is tougher with tribulation and tougher with exemplary punishment.
