Quote:
{4:135} O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm in justice, witnesses for God, even if it be against yourselves or parents and relatives. Whether one is rich or poor, God is more worthy of both. So follow not [personal] inclination, lest you not be just. And if you distort [your testimony] or refuse [to give it], then indeed God is ever, with what you do, Acquainted.
Excellent translation. My only comment is that
قسط means equity rather than justice. Justice is achieved when equity is given. So, for the italicized phrase, I suggest something like "standing firmly for equity."
I suggest,
{4:135} O you who have believed, be upstanding for equity, witnesses for God, even if it be against yourselves or the two parents and the closest relatives. If one is rich or poor, then God is more patron to both of them. So do not follow propensity, that you may deal equally. And if you twist [your testimony] or turn aside [from giving it], then verily, God has ever been, of what you do, All-Aware.
