Quote:
{3:100} O you who have believed, if you obey a party of those who were given the Scripture, they would turn you back, after your belief, [to being] unbelievers.

I suggest,
{3:100} O you who have believed, if you obey a segment of those who were granted the Book, they would turn you back, after your faith, [to being] disbelievers.

Quote:
{3:101} And how could you disbelieve while to you are being recited the verses of God and among you is His Messenger? And whoever holds firmly to God has [indeed] been guided to a straight path.

I suggest,
{3:101} And how [could] you disbelieve while to you are being recited the verses of God and among you is His Messenger? And whoever takes sanctuary in God then he has indeed been guided to a straight path.

Quote:
{3:102} O you who have believed, fear God as He should be feared and do not die except as Muslims [in submission to Him].

We've discussed the meaning of اتقوا before and said that it means more than fear. Fear is passive and involuntary, while التقوى is active and deliberate. The word means "shield yourselves from God's wrath." To make it less verbose I suggested "Be watchful [of God]. I therefore suggest,

{3:102} O you who have believed, watch out for God as He ought to be watched and do not die except as Muslims.

I am, however, open for suggestions. If you have some idea you'd like to share, please add it to the ongoing discussion at http://forum.themostreadbook.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=38.

If التقوى means only fear of God, then the prophet, peace be upon him, was repeating himself when he said, أما إني لأتقاكم لله وأخشاكم له (Lo! Verily, I am the most watchful of God among you and the most fearing of Him).

Good analysis. The word I am looking for should have an "avoid" angle in it, because that's the strongest sense I get from التقوى. When I find the right word, I'll post in the dedicated thread.

Let me adjust my suggestion a bit,

{3:102} O you who have believed, watch out for God a true watching out for Him, and never die except while you are Muslims.
