Quote:
{39:53} Say, "O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of God. Indeed, God forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful."

I like Wahiduddin Khan's translation of أسرفوا as "committed excesses". I suggest,
{39:53} Say, "O My worshipers who have committed excesses against their souls, do not despair of the mercy of God. Verily, God forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Much Forgiving, the Very Merciful."

Quote:
{39:54} And return [in repentance] to your Lord and submit to Him before the punishment comes upon you; then you will not be helped.

I suggest,
{39:54} And turn to your Lord and submit to Him before comes to you the torment; then you are not helped.

Quote:
{39:55} And follow the best of what was revealed to you from your Lord before the punishment comes upon you suddenly while you do not perceive,

I suggest,
{39:55} And follow the best of what was sent down to you from your Lord before comes to you the torment suddenly while you do not sense,

Quote:
{39:56} Lest a soul should say, "Oh [how great is] my regret over what I neglected in regard to God and that I was among the mockers."

The particle at the epilogue of the verse is إن, not أن, therefore the translation of "that" is incorrect. I suggest,
{39:56} Lest a soul should say, "Woe is me over what I neglected of God's side and I was surely among the mockers."

Quote:
{39:57} Or [lest] it say, "If only God had guided me, I would have been among the righteous."

I suggest,
{39:57} Or [lest] it say, "If only God had guided me, I would have been among the pious."

Quote:
{39:58} Or [lest] it say when it sees the punishment, "If only I had another turn so I could be among the doers of good."

I suggest,
{39:58} Or [lest] it say when it sees the torment, "If only I had a turn around so I could be among the benevolent."

Quote:
{39:59} But yes, there had come to you My verses, but you denied them and were arrogant, and you were among the disbelievers.

I suggest,
{39:59} Nay, there had come to you My signs, but you belied them and conceited, and you were among the disbelievers.
