Quote:
{38:16} And they say, "Our Lord, hasten for us our share [of the punishment] before the Day of Account"
I'd translate it "
the Day of Accounting."
I like Yusuf Ali's translation of
قطنا the best, but the above translation is the most linguistic, so I have to comply with my own rules
Quote:
{38:17} Be patient over what they say and remember Our servant, David, the possessor of strength; indeed, he was one who repeatedly turned back [to God].
Sarwar's translation of
ذا الأيد is the most linguistic. I'm obligated to go with it
{38:17} Be patient over what they say and remember Our worshiper David, who had strong hands. Indeed he was one who always turned back [to God].Quote:
{38:18} Indeed, We subjected the mountains [to praise] with him, exalting [God] in the [late] afternoon and [after] sunrise.
Yusuf Ali's translation of
معه is superb! I suggest,
{38:18} Verily, We subdued the mountains, in unison with him, to sanctify [God] by nightfall and sunrise.Quote:
{38:20} And We strengthened his kingdom and gave him wisdom and discernment in speech.
Pickthall's translation of
فصل الخطاب is the most straightforward. I suggest,
{38:20} And We strengthened his kingdom and gave him wisdom and decisive speech.
