Quote:
{38:27} And We did not create the heaven and the earth and that between them aimlessly. That is the assumption of those who disbelieve, so woe to those who disbelieve from the Fire.
The translation of
باطلا is correct, but not linguistically. The word means falsehood. Other translations suggested "in vain" and "without purpose" which are both good but not linguistically right. Rodwell, I think, got it. He suggest "in naught" and I suggest using that.
{38:27} And We did not create the heaven and the earth and what is between them in naught. That is the assumption of those who disbelieve, so woe to those who disbelieve from the Fire.Quote:
{38:28} Or should we treat those who believe and do righteous deeds like corrupters in the land? Or should We treat those who fear God like the wicked?
This verse is another confirmation that
المتقين does not exactly mean "the God-fearing." That's because its opposite is mentioned here as those who openly sin. Thus, the true meaning of
المتقين are those who watch out for God. I suggest,
{38:28} Or should We regard those who believe and do the righteous [deeds] as the corrupters in the land? Or should We regard the watchful [of God] as the open sinners?
