Quote:
{2:118} Those who do not know say, "Why does God not speak to us or there come to us a sign?" Thus spoke those before them like their words. Their hearts resemble each other. We have shown clearly the signs to a people who are certain [in faith].
The italicized sentence is not quite right because the Arabic is not using an interrogative sentence. A better translation, IMHO, is:
{2:118} And said those who do not know, "If only God would speak to us or there comes to us a sign!" Thus uttered those before them similar to their uttering. Their hearts have been alike. We have already clarified the signs to a folk who are certain [in faith].Quote:
{2:119} Indeed, We have sent you, [O Muhammad], with the truth as a bringer of good tidings and a warner, and you will not be asked about the companions of Hellfire.
I suggest,
{2:119} Verily, We have sent you [, O Muhammad,] with the truth, a herald of glad tidings and a forewarner, and you are not asked about the inmates of the Abyss.
