Quote:
{2:165} And [yet], among the people are those who take other than God as equals [to Him]. They love them as they [should] love God. But those who believe are stronger in love for God. And if only they who have wronged would consider [that] when they see the punishment, [they will be certain] that all power belongs to God and that God is severe in punishment.

I have to dispute most of the interjections above. "Yet" is unnecessary as it assumes this verse is a follow-up to the previous verse. It could be but it could also be a new statement.

The interjection "Should" is OK but not necessary. The Arabic says, "They love them like the love for God." This means that those people may love both equally, which is consistent with them making their idols equal to God. The premise of this verse is that the love for God must surpasses all love.

The phrase "would consider [that]" is added without cause. Asad translated that part best. I'd suggest this translation,

{2:165} And among the people are those who take for themselves other than God as equals [to Him]. They love them like the love for God. But those who have believed are stronger in love for God. And if only they who have wronged could see [, as they will,] when they see the torment, that strength belongs to God altogether and that God is severe in torment.

Quote:
{2:166} [And they should consider that] when those who have been followed disassociate themselves from those who followed [them], and they [all] see the punishment, and cut off from them are the ties [of relationship],

I'd remove the first interjection, "And they should consider that." I suggest,
{2:166} As those who have been followed have disassociated from those who followed [them], and they saw the torment, and [all] means cut off from them,

Quote:
{2:167} [And they should consider that] when those who have been followed disassociate themselves from those who followed [them], and they [all] see the punishment, and cut off from them are the ties [of relationship],

Again, I'd remove the first interjection, "And they should consider that." I suggest,

{2:167} And said those who followed, "If only we had a turn back [to the worldly life] so we would disassociate from them as they have disassociated from us." Thus does God show them their deeds as regrets upon them. And they are not at all exiting from the Fire.
