Quote:
{2:193} Fight them until there is no [more] fitnah and [until] worship is [acknowledged to be] for God. But if they cease, then there is to be no aggression except against the oppressors.

I'd rather translate "Fitna" instead of transliterate it. "Persecution" is a proper translation.

The Arabic says "religion" where the translation says "worship." I like to stick to the Arabic words. So, I suggest,

{2:193} Fight them until there is no persecution and the religion is for God [alone]. If they cease, then there is to be no aggression except against the oppressors.

It is also possible that حتى means "so that," which would then cause the translation to be: "Fight them so that there will be no persecution..."

Quote:
{2:195} And spend in the way of God and do not throw [yourselves] with your [own] hands into destruction [by refraining]. And do good; indeed, God loves the doers of good.

The interjection, "by refraining", is an interpretation. We don't want to impose any interpretation in this project, so I'd leave it out.

أحسنوا means more than "do good," it means "do beautiful things!" I'd translate it "be benevolent" and المحسنين, as I did before, to benefactors.

Good translation that captures the origin of the word and fits the context of the verse. I am guessing that they were concerned about the other connotation the word has acquired (sinful distraction).

Nice. The only suggestion is to have something leading up to "If they cease" to translate the "fa." I am not big on using "but" for that role, but it is better than not using anything.

Good choices.

OK. I suggest,

{2:193} Fight them until there is no persecution and the religion is for God [alone]. But if they cease, then there is to be no aggression except against the wrongdoers.

{2:194} [Fighting in] the sacred month is for [aggression committed in] the sacred month, and for [all] violations is [legal] retribution. So whoever has assaulted you, then assault him in the same way that he has assaulted you. And watch out God and know that God is with the watchful [of Him].

{2:195} And spend in the way of God and do not throw [yourselves] with your [own] hands into demise. And do good; verily, God loves benefactors.
