Quote:
{23:49} And We certainly gave Moses the Scripture that perhaps they would be guided.
{23:50} And We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign and sheltered them within a high ground having level [areas] and flowing water.
{23:51} [God said], "O messengers, eat from the good foods and work righteousness. Indeed, I, of what you do, am Knowing.
I suggest,
{23:49} And We certainly gave Moses the Book that they may find the way.{23:50} And We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign and sheltered them to a lofty ground having meadows and springs.{23:51} [God said], "O messengers, eat from the good [foods] and do a righteous [deed]. Verily, I, of what you do, am All-Knowing.Quote:
{23:52} And indeed this, your religion, is one religion, and I am your Lord, so fear Me."
The Arabic grammar of this verse can be easily confused. The word
أمتكم (which means "your community" not "your religion"), evidenced by its inflection, is an apposition noun for the demonstrative pronoun
هذه. Therefore, that part of the sentence should be translated as "this your community." The nominal sentence, starting with
إن (verily) has that part of the sentence as its predicate. The subject, evidenced by the inflection, is
أمة واحدة (one community). Thus the complete sentence should be translated as "Verily, it is one community this your community."
So, I suggest,
{23:52} And verily, this your community is one community, and I am your Lord, so watch out for Me."However, this does not fully translate the meaning, which is more like "
Verily, this is your community and it is one community." But I will not suggest that translation because it would not be linguistically accurate.
