Quote:
{19:49} So when he had left them and those they worshipped other than God, We gave him Isaac and Jacob, and each [of them] We made a prophet.

I suggest,
{19:49} Then when he parted with them and [with] those they worshiped besides God, We granted him Isaac and Jacob, and each We made a prophet.

Quote:
{19:50} And We gave them of Our mercy, and we made for them a reputation of high honor.

I suggest,
{19:50} And We granted to them out of Our mercy, and We set out for them a high tongue of truth (a high reputation).

Nice choice of words in the suggested translations. The only part I am not comfortable with is "a high tongue of truth (a high reputation)." First, i don't think the explanation in parentheses is born by the Arabic verse. Second, the word "علي" means to me a bit more than "high," maybe something on top of other things or something that has ascended. Maybe "an elevated tongue of truth"?

I agree that the explanation in parentheses implies an interpretation and that's against my rules :) As for the translation of عليا, how about Yusuf Ali's and Asad's choice, "lofty?"

{19:50} And We granted to them out of Our mercy, and We set out for them a lofty tongue of truth.

Fabulous choice!
