I only want to translate the present participle as is,
{18:6} Then perhaps you [, O Muhammad,] are killing yourself over them, that they do not believe in this message, out of sorrow.

Quote:
{18:8} And indeed, We will make that which is upon it [into] a barren ground.

Again, I want to translate the present participle as is,
{18:8} And, verily, We are making what is on it [into] a barren mound.

Technically speaking, a present participle in English indicates an incomplete action, but in Arabic it indicates an upcoming action which may or may not have started.
