Quote: {17:8} [Then God said], "It is expected, [if you repent], that your Lord will have mercy upon you. But if you return [to sin], We will return [to punishment]. And We have made Hell, for the disbelievers, a prison-bed." I think Asad got the right translation of حصيرا. I suggest, {17:8} [God speaking to the Children of Israel], "Maybe your Lord will have mercy on you. But if you return [to sin], We would return [to punishment]. And We have made Gehenna (Hell), for the disbelievers, an enclosure." Quote: {17:9} Indeed, this Quran guides to that which is most suitable and gives good tidings to the believers who do righteous deeds that they will have a great reward. I suggest, {17:9} Verily, this Quran guides to that which is most upright, and gives glad tidings to the believers who do the righteous [deeds] that for them is a big reward. Quote: {17:10} And that those who do not believe in the Hereafter - We have prepared for them a painful punishment. I suggest, {17:10} And that those who do not believe in the Hereafter - We have readied for them a painful torment. Quote: {17:11} And man supplicates for evil as he supplicates for good, and man is ever hasty. I suggest, {17:11} And man supplicates for evil [like] his supplication for good, and man is ever precipitant. |
