I suggest,
{12:52} "That is so that he would know that I have not betrayed him in [his] absence and that God does not guide the scheming of betrayers."

I suggest,
{12:53} "And I do not absolve myself. Indeed, the soul is a persistent commander of evil, except those which my Lord has granted mercy. Indeed, my Lord is much Forgiving, very Merciful."

I would just change the opener to "That is so he ...." since the double "that" is awkward.

Good point, especially since there are two more thats following them!
