The context in the preceding verse is that the brothers promised their father that they will guard Benjamin. Jacob wasn't so sure about that, but he comforted himself with the knowledge that God is a better guardian. I suggest, {12:64} He said, "Would I entrust you with him except as I entrusted you with his brother before? But God is a better guardian, and He is the most Merciful of the merciful." |
