Quote:
{11:77} And when Our messengers, [the angels], came to Lot, he was anguished for them and felt for them great discomfort and said, "This is a trying day."
I went through 19 translations (!) and all translate
سيئ بهم as "he was distressed
for them" or "he was distressed," but that is not what the Arabic clause says. It says, "He was distressed
by them." The reason he was distressed by them is that he knew what was about to happen and realized he could not stop it. That's why he said right afterward, "This is a difficult day." He wished they never came to his house.
I suggest,
{11:77} And when Our messengers (the angels) came to Lot, he was distressed by them and felt besieged by them and he said, "This is a difficult day."
