Did 9:36 abrogate 9:123?

There is always room for one more abrogation claim! In his book, التبيان في الناسخ والمنسوخ في القرآن المجيد, pages 117-118, author Abdullah ibn Hamza Aş-Şa`di Al-Yamaani reports that Al-Hasan and Al-Aşamm both said that

abrogated

He also reports that his teacher, Abu-Ali (Al-Jabaa'i?), rejected that and said, "That verse (9:123) explains the mandate of fighting and the other (9:36) explains how. Neither one negates the other, therefore, there is no abrogation."

Abu-Ali (Al-Jabaa'i?).
