Ibn Hazm Al-Andalusi writes that
was abrogated by
And by
For one thing, Chapter 25 was revealed in Mecca long before Chapter 4, thus 25:68 could not possibly abrogate 4:93.
But the case is invalid for at least three reasons:
- 4:116 specifies a contingency, "For whomever He wills," thus God could forgive the deliberate murderer of a Muslim, but He decided He won't, per 4:93.
- The "door of repentance is open" principle is clearly stated in the Quran and the Sunna. Thus, a deliberate murderer of a Muslim may still repent and save his soul, and that is covered by 4:116. This makes it clear that the murderer that God will not forgive is the one who did not repent before he died.
- Same principle of repentance applies to polytheism! Converting to Islam wipes out all prior sins. If 4:116 were unconditional, then a convert from polytheism is not welcome!
