Ibn Al-Jawzi reports that

was claimed by Ibn Abbaas to have been abrogated by

And that Ibn As-Saa'ib claimed it was abrogated by

He writes,

He dismisses the claim quoting exegetes explaining what is meant by prayer is the mandatory prayer and others said it means supplication and that moderating the voice does not negate humility.

Am I the only one who sees that the three verses talk about three different things? 17:110 instructs the Prophet to be moderate in voicing the ritual prayer, 7:205 instructs him to be quiet when he remembers God and 15:94 instructs him to comply with what God orders him and ignore the harassment of polytheists. Where is any possible abrogation here?

You are not the only one.

Am I the only one who thinks that someone has invented narrations and attributed them wholesale to Ibn-Abbas, may God be pleased with him? There isn't even a modification, let alone abrogation in this case.

Ibn Salaama, in his book الناسخ والمنسوخ في القرآن الكريم, page 81, supports this claim and mentions the circumstances of revelation of 17:110 as reported by Al-Bukhaari and Muslim: When the Prophet (PBUH) stood up in prayer, he would recite the Quran with an audible voice that the polytheists could hear. When they did, they foul-mouthed the Quran.

Ibn Salaama then proceeded to mention how 7:205 abrogated it, without explaining why he thought so.
