This case about the mandate of pilgrimage. Ibn Al-Jawzi reports that As-Suddi said that the latter part of

abrogated the middle part. Ibn Al-Jawzi replied,

Ibn Al-Jawzi corrects As-Suddi saying that all grammar scholars have agreed that من ("whoever") is an apposition pronoun for الناس ("people") and thus the meaning of the verse is equivalent to saying, "And for God upon whomever of the people who can to make the pilgrimage."

Ibn Salaama agrees with this claim, in his book الناسخ والمنسوخ في القرآن الكريم, page 42, and cites for evidence a hadeeth, reported by Al-Haakim, that the Prophet (PBUH) was asked what سبيلا (a way) meant. He replied, "Luggage and ride."

Is that an evidence for abrogation? Or is it an elaboration of the directive?

This is really going too far. It would be similar to saying that an adjective abrogates its noun.

Furthermore (not that it's needed), we argued in this post that if it is just a part of a verse , then it cannot be abrogated.

I agree of course, but I feel that we must cover all cases reported in the classic literature regardless of their merit, if we want the research to be complete and scholarly.

One thing we can do when we're done with all the cases, is to post the items in our validation checklist which the case does not pass.

Yes, and this will make the html version of the results of this project easier to produce than the print version.

Against:
