BBcodes are inline tags (commands between square brackets, [...]), that render your text in a special way. The common ones are shown in the toolbar that you see above the edit box when you create or edit a post or reply to one, such as Quote, List, Img, URL and Center. By hovering your mouse over any of them, you get a short description of their function and usage.

We have available other BBcodes you can use. We did not display them in the toolbar so as not to crowd it. These will be explained one by one in the following posts.

The [image] BBcode permits the specification of image width, height and border width. This can be useful for scaling an image before inserting it inline, for instance.

Syntax:
Code:
[image=width,height,border]URL[/image]

Example:
Code:
[image=200,100,1]http://www.themostreadbook.org/images/shahada01.gif[/image]

Which produces the following:

These BBcodes allow you to layout elements of your message in a table.

Syntax:
Code:
[table=width (pixels, % or *), border]
[tr]
[td=width (pixels, % or *)]....[/td]
... (zero or more table cells)
[/tr]
... (zero or more table rows)
[/table]

Example:
Code:
[table=50%,1]
[tr]
[td=50%]Cell 1,1[/td] [td=*]Cell 1,2[/td]
[/tr]
[tr]
[td=50%]Cell 2,1[/td] [td=*]Cell 2,2[/td]
[/tr]
[/table]

Which produces the following:

Cell 1,1 Cell 1,2
Cell 2,1 Cell 2,2

This BBcode puts text in a scrolling text area. useful if you have a long message and don't want the post body to be too long.

Syntax:
Code:
[Scroll=height (in pixels)]text[/Scroll]

Example:
Code:
[Scroll=200]
Details of the sermon:
Praise is to God and blessing and peace be upon His last prophet and messenger, Muhammad, who conveyed the message, fulfilled the trust, was honest with the community and struggled for God until the certainty of death came to him. "Verily, God and His angels pray for the prophet. O you who have believed, pray for him and send your wishes of peace."

Today, we celebrate the feast of sacrifice commemorating prophets Abraham and Ishmael's unhesitating willingness to sacrifice for God's sake and God's mercy toward them that He saved Ishmael and ransomed him with a ram. God did not wish for Ishamel to die, nor for Abraham to agonize over the death of his only son! God was testing their faith knowing they will pass. This is a lesson for us that difficulties we face may be a test of faith from God and if we pass the test, the difficulty will be over and the reward from God will befall us.

I will now make supplications, say Amen.

    * O God, Do not make this world the biggest of our concerns nor the extent of our knowledge. Make it in our hands but not in our hearts. And do not make our calamity in our religion.
    * O God, make us see the truth as the truth and grant us that we follow it and make us see falsehood as falsehood and grant us that we avoid it.
    * O God, forgive our living and our dead, our present and our absent, our young and our old, our men and our women. O God, as you keep us alive, keep us Muslim and when you recall us let us then be believers.

Let us pray.
[/Scroll]

The "More" BBcode allows you to hide a bulk of your message but provide a link to show it. When the reader has finished reading the text, they can click the link again to hide the text. This is useful for long messages where you want to spare the reader the details unless they want to read them.

Syntax:
Code:
text [More] hidden text [/More]

Example:
Code:
That was the summary of the sermon. [More]

The [Bimg] BBcode is similar to the [Img] BBcode, except that it allows the specification of a border width for the image. This is useful if you want to show an image that doesn't have a border and add one to it.

Syntax:
Code:
[Bimg=border-width]image-URL[/Bimg]

Example:
Code:
[Bimg=4]http://www.themostreadbook.org/images/shahada01.gif[/Bimg]

Which produces the following:

Admin note: This one is not working in my browser for some reason. Is it working for you? Do you see a solid border?

The [Label] BBcode gives a label to a text selection in your message. The [Goto] BBcode navigates to that labeled text.

Syntax:
Code:
[Label=IDENTIFIER]text[/Label]
....
[Goto=IDENTIFIER]text[/Goto]

Example:
Code:
[Label=T]Frequently asked questions:[/Label]
[list=1]
[*] [Goto=X]How do I do X?[/Goto]
[*] [Goto=Y]Where do I find Y?[/Goto]
[*] [Goto=Z]What does Z mean?[/Goto]
[/list]
[Label=X]How do I do X?[/Label]
....
[Goto=T]Back to the top[/Goto]
[Label=Y]Where do I find Y?[/Label]
....
[Goto=T]Back to the top[/Goto]
[Label=Z]What does Z mean?[/Label]
....
[Goto=T]Back to the top[/Goto]

Which produces the following:
Frequently asked questions:
  1. How do I do X?
  2. Where do I find Y?
  3. What does Z mean?
How do I do X?
....
Back to the top
Where do I find Y?
....
Back to the top
What does Z mean?
....
Back to the top

The [Caption] BBcode allows you to insert an image and assign a caption that will appear below it.

Syntax:
Code:
[Caption=Image_URL width height alt_text]Caption text[/Caption]
where alt_text is text to be shown if the image cannot be loaded.

Example:
Code:
[Caption=http://www.themostreadbook.org/images/elyunque.png 480 243 "Elyunque National Park"]El Yunque National Park in Puerto Rico[/Caption]

Which produces the following:
"Elyunque National Park"

El Yunque National Park in Puerto Rico
