I like "heedless" because it conveys the meaning of not living up to the spirit of the prayers. Using "distract" conveys a meaning of just not being regular in prayers.
I see your point, but "heedless" translates غافلون. How about:

Linguistically it means the slightest help, so how about:
{107:7} And prevent the slightest aid.
