I suggest,

{9:69} [You disbelievers are] like those before you; they were tougher than you in strength and more abundant in wealth and children. Then they enjoyed their portion [of worldly enjoyment], then you enjoyed your portion as have enjoyed those before you their portion, and you indulged like what they indulged [in]. Those - their deeds sank in [this] the nearest [life] and in the Hereafter, and it is those who are the losers.

{9:70} Has there not come to them the tale of those before them - the people of Noah and [the tribes of] `Aad and Thamood and the people of Abraham and the fellows of Midian and the subverting [towns]? Their messengers came to them with clear evidences. And God would never have wronged them, but they have been to themselves wronging.
