Quote:
{7:154} And when the anger subsided in Moses, he took up the tablets; and in their inscription was guidance and mercy for those who are fearful of their Lord.

I suggest,
{7:154} And when has quieted in Moses the anger, he took the tablets; and in their inscription is guidance and mercy for those who of their Lord they are in awe.

Quote:
{7:155} And Moses chose from his people seventy men for Our appointment. And when the earthquake seized them, he said, "My Lord, if You had willed, You could have destroyed them before and me [as well]. Would You destroy us for what the foolish among us have done? This is not but Your trial by which You send astray whom You will and guide whom You will. You are our Protector, so forgive us and have mercy upon us; and You are the best of forgivers.

Just a minor edit because ولي means "ally" not "protector." I suggest,

{7:155} And Moses chose [from] his people - seventy men - for Our appointment. And once has seized them the quake, he said, "Lord, if You had willed, You would have destroyed them heretofore and me. Would You destroy us for what the foolish among us have done? It is but Your trial by which You let stray whom You will and guide whom You will. You are our Ally, so forgive us and have mercy upon us; and You are the best of forgivers."

Quote:
{7:156} And decree for us in this world [that which is] good and [also] in the Hereafter; indeed, we have turned back to You." [God] said, "My punishment - I afflict with it whom I will, but My mercy encompasses all things." So I will decree it [especially] for those who fear Me and give zakah and those who believe in Our verses -

This is the verse that tells when the Jews were so called! The word "Jews" is derived from the verb used in this verse, هدنا, by the Hebrews to describe their state. It means "we have come back to You in humility to apologize."

I suggest,
{7:156} "And prescribe for us in this the nearest [life] a good and [also] in the Hereafter; verily, we have come back to You in humility to apologize." [God] said, "My torment - I hit with it whom I will, but My mercy has encompassed everything. So, I shall prescribe it to those who watch out [for Me] and give alms and to those who in Our signs they believe."
