Quote:
{6:14} Say, "Is it other than God I should take as a protector, Creator of the heavens and the earth, while it is He who feeds and is not fed?" Say, [O Muhammad], "Indeed, I have been commanded to be the first [among you] who submit [to God] and [was commanded], 'Do not ever be of the polytheists.' "
I suggest,
{6:14} Say, "Other than God should I take for ally, Creator of the heavens and the earth, while it is He who feeds and is not fed?" Say, [O Muhammad,] "Verily, I have been commanded to be the first [among you] who submit [to God] and [was commanded], 'Do not ever be of the polytheist.' "Quote:
{6:15} Say, "Indeed I fear, if I should disobey my Lord, the punishment of a tremendous Day."
I suggest,
{6:15} Say, "Verily, I fear, if I have disobeyed my Lord, the torment of a tremendous Day."Quote:
{6:16} He from whom it is averted that Day - [God] has granted him mercy. And that is the clear attainment.
We've discussed the word
الفوز before and while it is a combination of escaping and winning, I think the context of this verse leans toward the escape aspect, so I'd translate the last sentence, "
And that is the clear escape.". But to remain consistent with my translation of the other occurances of the word, I'll use "win."
I suggest,
{6:16} He from whom it is diverted that Day - then [God] has granted him mercy. And that is the clear win.
