Quote:
{4:47} O you who were given the Scripture, believe in what We have sent down [to Muhammad], confirming that which is with you, before We obliterate faces and turn them toward their backs or curse them as We cursed the sabbath-breakers. And ever is the decree of God accomplished.
Excellent translation!
But I'd make some slight edits,
{4:47} O you who were given the Book, believe in what We have sent down (to Muhammad), confirming of what is with you, before We obliterate faces and turn them toward their backs or curse them as We cursed the sabbath fellows. And ever has the command of God been done.Quote:
{4:48} Indeed, God does not forgive association with Him, but He forgives what is less than that for whom He wills. And he who associates others with God has certainly fabricated a tremendous sin.
"Association with God" is not a clear translation of "shirk." The word means to consider partners to God, or to associate something or someone with God
in worship. So, I suggest,
{4:48} Verily, God does not forgive to be associated with [in worship], but He forgives what is beneath that for whom He wills. And he who associates [others] with God [in worship] has certainly fabricated a tremendous sin.
