Quote:
{4:144} O you who have believed, do not take the disbelievers as allies instead of the believers. Do you wish to give God against yourselves a clear case?
Very interesting translation "clear case!" But, as always, I'd like my translation to be closer to the Arabic, so I suggest:
{4:144} O you who have believed, do not take for yourselves the disbelievers as allies instead of the believers. Do you want to make for God against yourselves a venue [to punish you]?Quote:
{4:145} Indeed, the hypocrites will be in the lowest depths of the Fire - and never will you find for them a helper -
I suggest,
{4:145} Verily, the hypocrites are in the lowest descending step of the Fire - and never will you find for them a helper -Quote:
{4:146} Except for those who repent, correct themselves, hold fast to God, and are sincere in their religion for God, for those will be with the believers. And God will grant the believers a great reward.
I suggest,
{4:146} Except for those who repented, reformed, held fast to God, and dedicated their religion to God, for those are with the believers. And God is going to give the believers a great reward.Quote:
{4:147} What would God do with your punishment if you are grateful and believe? And ever is God Appreciative and Knowing.
Excellent translation. Although "punishment" is apt in this context, I normally like to translate
عذاب as "torment" because "punishment" is a better translation of
عقاب, so I suggest,
{4:147} What would God do with your torment if you have thanked and believed? And ever has God been Thankful, All-Knowing.
