{2:62} Indeed, those who believed and those who were Jews or Christians or Sabeans [before Prophet Muhammad] - those [among them] who believed in God and the Last Day and did righteousness - will have their reward with their Lord, and no fear will there be concerning them, nor will they grieve.

The interjection of "before prophet Muhammad" is exegesis, not linguistic. Therefore, I prefer not to include it even if it is the correct exegesis.

The other comment is the translation of هادوا as "were Jews." It is not quite accurate. The verb هاد means to walk in humility. God has used the expression الذين هادوا to refer positively to certain Jews; those who felt sorry for what they did, walked in humility toward Moses, peace be upon him, and asked him to pray for them to be forgiven. Until we can find a terser way to translate it, I suggest "those who came to God in humility to apologize," or something like it.

{2:62} Verily, those who have believed, those who came back contrite (the Jews), the Christians and the Sabeans - who believed in God and the Final Day and did a righteous [deed] - for them is their reward with their Lord and no fear shall be on them nor shall they grieve.
