And know that God knows what is within yourselves, so beware of Him. And know that God is Forgiving and Forbearing.

{2:235} And there is no violation upon you in what you have alluded to of engagement to women or for what you have concealed within yourselves. God had known that you will have them in mind. But do not promise them secretly unless you say a proper saying. And do not determine the marriage knot (contract) until the prescription (grace or mourning period) reaches its term. And know that God knows what is within yourselves, so beware of Him. And know that God is much Forgiving and Forbearing.
